Clare Valley, SA

Clare Valley is south of the Flinders Ranges and is home to a cluster of villages and wineries and to the Australian Riesling (white wine named after the Riesling trail of the valley).
It is one of Australia's best known wine production regions, first settled by english, irish and polish; many of the original buildings are still unique and have a charming appearance.

The best way to enjoy the valley if you want to wine tasting is surely a ride on the Riesling trail around wineries. The Riesling trail is long 35 kilometres and it goes from Auburn to Barinia Road, White Hut. It is divided in sections, so that it is easy to stop in the main towns and it is possible to jump on the track from different towns. There are even three different loops that head to west or north and bring you in other parts of the valley, with several cellar doors and interesting and rewarding views of the country.

Clare is the main service towns for the region and for visitors, it offers plenty different accommodation styles and excellent dining from gourmet food to pub meals, the choice is just yours!
Town was initially developed in 1840 and it was named Clare as a tribute to the native hometown of the first irish settler. Bungaree station came soon after as a farming property due to the fact that self-sufficiency was critical and important as it was a two week ride to Adelaide at that time. From there more stations were built and Clare became known as the Garden of the North.
Sevenhill Cellars is east of Sevenhill, a town south of Clare, and is the oldest winery and vineyard of the Clare Valley. It was started by Jesuits in 1851 and it is one of the most unusual wineries because it is located in the St Aloysius Church and visitors are free to wander through. It still produces sacramental wines, as well as an extensive selection of table wines.

Unfortunately I've been in Clare Valley just for a day and tried a few wineries, but there is so much to see and taste all around the valley, starting from the wines to olive oils and olive, to delicious food and wonderful deserts. It's a paradise for the taste!
Furthermore there are some walks and national parks, like the Red Banks Conservation Parks, to visit and enjoy.
